When I went to London, I wasn’t into photography, and that was long before digital cameras. I wish I had photos like these, since I loved the British Museum.
I do remember the Lion…but what I liked more was the winged human/bull–more especially because its partner is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City (and each of them reference the other on their plaques as I recall)

It’s certainly a boon to be able to look back over the photos, jogging my memory and so forth.
I believe at the moment half the Lewis Chessmen are at the Met, according to the little sign on display.
Still? Or again? I remember 20 years ago that the Met was loaned the Lewis chessmen.
It must be again, I think. They tend to do a bit of a tour!
