For those of you who speak German…

Translated on the German Lyx Facebook page, I talk a little about influences for the Legends of the Red Sun series and random stuff, such as my current whisky stash (pictured above, and clearly bigger than Joe Abecrombie’s, not that we’re comparing sizes or anything).

Note the strategically placed Union Jack cushion in the background on one of the photos… Must keep the British end up, n’all that.

  1. Call that a collection?  Pfah!
Old Pulteney is horrible.  It tastes like feet.I’ll take the Yamazaki and the Port Charlotte, though.  Ooh, and the Ardbeg.

  2. I recently bought a Nikka, 21 years, spotting it in a beautiful little Glen Fahrn store in Zurich, after remembering you mentioning it, Mr. Newton. It is, quite simply, heavenly.

  3. Old Pult 12 isn’t very good I’ll admit. The 15 or 18 was one of the best whiskies in the world according to this year’s Whisky Bible, so I thought I’d work myself up. A bit of an error, that.

Missing here is a speyside or two, as well as an unopened bottle of Port Ellen. Which, frankly, I’m too scared to open.

  4. Hi Mats – glad you enjoyed it! Nikka make some superb, well-balanced whiskies. Worth trying even more the next time you see one.

  5. Is that a Japanese whisky I spy?

  6. There are two on there: One is the Suntory Hakushu Heavily Peated Single Malt Whisky, the other is Nikka Single Cask, Coffey Grain Whisky, which is probably my favourite whisky of the lot, and which remains unopened!

  7. How pretty. 🙂 I really should start my own collection though it’s not so easy to get those small bottles in Germany, and bringing a score back from Scotland while relying on public transport (busses, trains, and the Newcastle/Amsterdam ferry) isn’t my idea of fun, to be frank. Esp. since I usually some books mysteriously find their way into my baggage as well (the few I can’t get via Amazon.de).

  8. A website I use quite often also ships to Germany: http://www.masterofmalt.com/delivery/

Now you have no excuse! 🙂

  9. Hi Mark,
this is the stuff I like … not only “The Legends of the Red Sun” but also the pic above … 😉

  10. Glad you approve, Sean! 🙂
