Ten-Year-Old Female Graffiti Artist Is New Banksy

As reported here, a 10-year-old schoolgirl called Solveig has earned herself a reputation as the “female Banksy” after creating a series of impressive graffiti artworks.

There’s something rather heartwarming about this. Take a look at the gallery.

I love this article simply because it’s a massive unintended diss to the highly overrated hipster favourite Banksy. Its implication is that in terms of both groundroots graff skills/credibility and wider relevance he’s being compared with a ten year old – although of course it’s the Telegraph’s take on the subject, to be taken with the smallest of pinches of salt…

The legendary Charlie Brooker completely slaughtered the guy in this Guardian piece – http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2006/sep/22/arts.visualarts . It was a well aimed headshot and a half and I’m not even going to try to paraphrase because he said it all far too well.

As you say though there’s something very heartwarming about it though, and heaven knows I’d rather see ‘scarecuts’ up on a wall than, for instance, some utterly facile image of a tank with flowers growing out of the barrel.
