Shameless Tor UK Book Plug

Julie at Tor UK sent me a package of books, so I feel honour-bound to plug them. Here we have Douglas Hulick’s Among Theives, Alan Campbell’s Sea of Ghosts, Adam Nevill’s The Ritual and Heaven’s Shadow by David S. Goyer & Michael Cassutt.

Not sure which of these I’ll get to first (probably Sea of Ghosts), but they all look pretty good to me, and I’m not just saying that because Julie keeps me sweet with whisky and books. Has anyone read any of these books or writers yet?

Go visit the Tor UK homepage. Tell them I sent you.

This post also sponsored by Apple (discreetly in the background).

I read the first Campbell book, Scar Night, the first half was atmospheric and moody and set up an interesting place. The second half was frantic video game action, which sat uncomfortably with the beginning. Have the 2 sequels in my TBR pile though, to see where it leads.

I want to read Nevill too, but I’ve got to be in a particular mood to enjoy a horror novel.

Christo – I wish I was sponsored by Apple! 🙂 That first series was pretty well received wasn’t it? Seems like ages ago now.

I read the Nevill in one sitting. A sitting that, rather unfortunately, ended at 10 pm. Not sure I slept a wink that night. Tis very good.

One of those horror books where you want to go to the author and sort of tut at him, “but you seem like such a nice young man!”

As a bit of background for those who are interested: Sea of Ghosts by Alan Campbell is a brand new series and, like debut author Douglas Hulick’s Among Thieves is out in April although I suspect they are probably available through Amazon now! The Ritual by Adam Nevill is available this May in TPB, Heaven’s Shadow is by the screenwriters of Batman Begins and The Twilight Zone and is out in HB in July. And they’re all very good!
And I didn’t tell/ask mark to plug these at all. Just in case anyone thinks I bullied him into anything… 🙂

Julie and Chloe at Tor were kind enough to already send me “Sea of Ghosts” and “Among Thieves” (they are the next two I’ll be reading and reviewing on my site), I’m really eager to get started on them. Tor have a number of exciting releases this year, and these two have been on my radar for a long time. I’ve never read any Campbell, but Emma reviewed his Deepgate Codex for the site, and always made them sound utterly gripping, dark, and fascinating. Pretty good endorsement, no?
I’d love to try out “Heaven’s Shadow”, too.
