Radio 4’s Off the Page

Well, it’s now online for people to listen to. This features me reading a short dystopian SF piece (with an environmental leaning, as you’d expect) on Radio 4 – bizarrely, it’s actually my first reading full stop. I start my piece towards the end of the show, and there’s quite a bit of general discussion and other readings beforehand.

I actually heard you reading as broadcast having switched on after the start of the programme and then suddenly realised who was speaking – and then the phoe rang so I caught it later. Its amazing how voices dont sound as one would anticipate! Nice short piece – and I’m glad the other contributors picked up on the points you were making. Good to see you keeping your eco-credentials going as well. The recent summit didnt exactly change our headlong decline!

Thanks, Andrew. I think I put my posh phone accent on for the radio (I was making sure to speak very slowly and clearly – I had that written down with my notes!).

Yeah, Rio +20 really was the pretty much the death warrant for the planet wasn’t it? There’s absolutely no hope now. I reckon the best we can do now is to hassle private companies to act better – though it’ll just delay the inevitable for a few decades.
