A showery day, but a different kind to the usual deluge. More heat, and a more refined light breaking through now and then. It’s a very different landscape here. Rolling chalk and limestone hills, curved gullies – a gentler place, not harsh like the Peak District can be. Long grassland, rich in clover. Fields of wheat. Young plantations and established woodland. Skylarks, buzzards. Spotted a deer – just about – behind a bush, before it dashed down the valley.
