Ketchup, 2012

It’s that time of year again. What to do with the glut of tomatoes? (I say glut – it’s been a crap year and I had to buy more from the local market). Everyone should make their own ketchup, since it’s pretty easy and tastes so much better than anything Heinz make. I followed this Jamie Oliver recipe, with a few extra secret tweaks, and store them in Nikka From The Barrel whisky bottles. I made a fairly big batch, which took the better part of 5 hours from start to finish, as there’s a lot of waiting for things to reduce…

The weather has led to a pretty dire state of affairs in the garden this year, however we managed to grow some beans, tomatoes, courgettes (loads of those), celery, garlic, onions, and a pumpkin which is still developing nicely. The raspberries, too, are about to come into season on a big scale.
